Spire Portsmouth Hospital First within Spire Group to achieve Gold CAP award for Housekeeping

June 12, 2019

Ahead of schedule, the Spire Portsmouth Hospital has secured a prestigious Gold Award from the nationally recognised Continuous Advancement Programme (CAP) for its outstanding performance and service quality in housekeeping. The Silver award was only presented by the CAP Awards Chief Assessor on 13th September 2018. The Gold follows just seven months later, making this an incredible achievement.

The hospital’s entire housekeeping team embraced the action plan which was formulated in September. Team members even went to such measures as creating their own WhatsApp group in order to improve teamwork and communications. This initiative indicated a clear recognition that a consistent message throughout the hospital is fundamental to achieving excellence in housekeeping.

In his latest report, the Chief Assessor, Ian Jackson, noted the impressive performance by the team. “Their understanding of the finer points of delivering a housekeeping service is to be commended,” he says.

Jackson also admired the enthusiasm from the clinical team in supporting the housekeeping team effort in going for Gold. “Whilst already at silver level, they increased their overall score by an impressive 6% in record time,” he explains.

Andrew Gilogley, Operations Manager at the hospital, commented: “We are all so pleased for the Housekeeping team. They have embraced the CAP Programme and dare I say enjoyed the team challenge of getting to GOLD. We are all so proud of them. To be the first in the Spire Hospital Group to achieve this accolade is an added achievement.”

A CAP Gold Award can only be achieved by organisations that commit to the challenge of an unannounced inspection visit from the CAP assessment team, meaning that the organisation must maintain its high standards at all times.
