Mater Private Hospital Cork Begins Journey with CAP to Raise the Bar in Catering Services

June 25, 2019

Mater Private Hospital Cork, Ireland’s fastest growing private hospital, has teamed-up with CAP to verify the high standards of its catering services and establish a roadmap for even greater achievement.

A member of the Mater Private Group, the Cork hospital is dedicated to high standards of patient care and safety and is accredited by global healthcare-standards innovator Joint Commission International (JCI). Recognising that excellence is measured in many ways from clinical care to accommodation services, the hospital is seeking the highest possible catering quality to maximise patient wellbeing.

The CAP Awards’ Continuous Advancement Programme for Catering comprises benchmarking and auditing, with tailored action plans supported by CAP’s in-house experts to help raise standards across the board, covering aspects such as nutritional content, variety, sourcing and preparation, and cleanliness and hygiene.

Choosing CAP to identify opportunities to further boost the already high standard of catering, set by the hospital’s contract-services partner KSG – carefully chosen for its range of innovative services to ensure an outstanding patient experience – the hospital is determined that its catering should support wellness in every way possible. KSG is the fastest growing catering services provider in Ireland, with 1100 employees nationally. Irish Champion at the Sustainable Restaurant Awards in 2016, and multiple Gold-standard winner of Deloitte Best Managed Company, KSG keeps its own urban farms in Cork and Dublin and has pioneered collaborative wellness programmes for customers to facilitate healthy eating.

Donna Roche, Hospital Manager at Mater Private Cork, explained how committing to CAP is a key part of the hospital’s drive to meet long-term patient-care objectives. She says, “We place an enormous importance on the catering service being offered to our patients and am delighted to be working with the CAP Programme and our caterers KSG on further enhancing the service provided – it is an exciting time.”

Welcoming the hospital to the programme, the CAP Awards Chief Assessor, Ian Jackson, added: “We are delighted to be involved in the ambitious plans that the Mater Private Hospital has for its catering services with the commendable focus on patient well-being.”

Joining the CAP programme represents a long-term commitment for Mater Private Cork, which is expected to yield enduring benefits, contributing to increased patient care, safety, and customer satisfaction.
